In this webinar we looked at the thorny issue of instructing a pension expert. Mena Ruparel, family lawyer and MD of Law CPD Solutions Ltd was joined by Mark Penston, Resolution accredited pension expert at Bluesky IFAs.

Together they discussed issues that solicitors face when approaching an expert to file a report on pension matters.

They touched on the following -

  1. How much information does the expert need?
  2. Can the expert easily calculate a view on offsetting?
  3. Can the expert calculate pre/post marital pension accrual?
  4. Should there be a report based on income equality or capital division?
  5. What changes should we be aware of following the pension changes in April 2015?
  6. When do pensions need to be actuarially recalculated?

Participants commented on the webinar:

"Well presented, easy to understand. Very well done".

"Very good".

"Made a somewhat scary but essential subject approachable, as well as genuinely interesting!"

"Brilliant"

"I found it a useful refresher and received some useful points to consider in instructing an expert. I hope that it was just as accessible to those with less experience of pension sharing in practice. It must be difficult  to try and strike a balance when preparing the seminar".
